Refurbishment Of A Woman’s Refuge And Provision of New Childcare Facilities
Location:Bray, Co. Wicklow
Status:Application for Planning Permission
Client:Private
The brief was to design a new crèche that could be used by both the residents
and the public, to refurbish the existing building to improve the overall layout
and to provide for new communal areas, bedrooms and offices.
The proposed works had to be designed so that they could be carried out in
stages to ensure that the refuge remained fully operational throughout the
construction process.
The new crèche is positioned on the site to take full advantage of the south
facing orientation, to maximise the external space, allow for both internal and
external entrances and to enable the children in the crèche to be visible at all
times from the residents in the refuge.
The new crèche is designed to have a flexible floor plan, a higher floor to
ceiling level than the existing building and full height floor to ceiling glazing
opening out onto the children’s play area and garden with the rooflit circulation
and ancillary facilities located along the north facing boundary wall.
